Nanotechnology Of Cancer Treatment Nanotechnology

Nanotechnology in Cancer Treatment Nanotechnology is science, engineering, and technology conducted at the nanoscale, which is about 1 to 100 nanometers. Nanoscience is the application of extremely small objects/structures and can be used across all the other science fields, such as chemistry, biology, physics, engineering and medical sciences. The possibilities of using nanotechnology in medical sciences are endless, especially when it comes to targeting sicknesses, primarily cancer. There is a growing possibility to destroying cancer tumors with minimal damage to healthy tissue and organs, as well as the detection and elimination of cancer cells before they form tumors. There are many ways that treatment can be applied; slow release drugs specifically targeted at the tumor cells, applying heat to cancer cells, attaching the affected cells to various metal nanoparticles and then removing them, as well as attaching nanoparticles to the cells to block them off from attaching to any other cells essentially starving them. Many of these techniques are not used alone either, slow release nanocarriers are often combined with other methods of cancer treatment with nanoparticles. First, the most commonly researched method of today, slow release drug therapy. The cancer is exposed to chemotherapy and other drugs but in a more focused way, researchers attach chemo-drugs to nanoparticles that are specifically designed to target only cancer cells, these nanoparticles that carry the drugShow MoreRelatedNanotechnology And Its Effects On Cancer Essay1746 Words   |  7 Pagesof Nanotechnology Cancer claims more than half a million lives in the United States every year (National Cancer Institute).
